An Autumn Letter to Lamplighters

Our ritual gestures are important as links and bridges between the spirit realm and matter. So our lighting of little ever-burning amber lights is a symbol that can draw down spiritual power. This linking operation is important, indeed essential at this time.

Landscape Temples

Temples in the landscape, as part of the fabric of mysterious Britain – a romantic idea indeed. Not merely structures built by ancient man, with column and lintel, pediment and portico, not merely surviving masonry suggestive of great works by the men of old, such as Tolkein's Fellowship of the Ring found in their wanderings, but something behind these man-made forms, something part of the very body of the living Earth, points where earth-energy is focussed, vortices of power and light which mark where Heaven and Earth meet, where ethereal space unites with the field of gravity. This is the concept we are exploring and its, scope is infinite, for it reaches out to Infinity.

Prototypes of Holistic Achievement

We are concerned with the breakthrough to a holistic world-view. We have seen that this is far more than theory. Once it takes possession of us, it brings change in character. We must change. We can no longer go on with the same egoism that characterises the condition of separation. We enter a new epoch, the evolutionary age when human consciousness lifts and expands into an experience of Wholeness.

The Cosmic Christ in the New Age

The coming of the New Age is heralded by a spiritual awakening which is to be distinguished from what has commonly been understood by the phrase "a religious revival". It has not grown out of the churches or conventional religions, though it can bring fresh ardour into every church. Yet this broad movement is truly religious in its nature in that it is a recognition of the stupendous Oneness of all life in its infinite diversity. All life is of God and everything is of Divine origin.

Dear Friends… this is a moment of coming together, of overcoming the isolated separation of the human being, and beginning to experience the great totality of humanity.

Emergence of a New Society

By taking a step in conscious evolution we can transform ourselves and the planet of which we are stewards.

The ultimate truth is that there is no defence except in Christ. I don't mean Jesus of the Churches, I mean the Cosmic Christ over-lighting all men of every religion: the Lord of the Spiritual Sun over-lighting the Earth and present in the whole etheric body of the Earth.

Meditation and Its Purpose

Essentially, meditation is the art and practice of creating an inner centre of quiet and stillness within the self and then allowing this to be flooded with light from the higher planes. It is the way to inner contact with the realm of eternal being. In our hurried and anxious world where everything is on the rush it is not easy to be innerly still. Emotions and thoughts and the concerns of our day crowd in and fill any vacuum of quiet. Yet how precious it is when we can achieve a spell of time in which we are quite freed from the inroads of active thoughts. How shall we achieve this?

Retirement and Old Age

It is strange to think that ours is the only period in world history in which virtually the whole of society is given a dozen free years after the career is finished or the family launched. Previously life consisted basically of nuture, training and toil until worn out. Now, through medical advance and the social services, death is postponed and like a free gift we each have this spell of time in which to harvest the life experience we have made.

The Living Word

The arts are truly the gateway to spiritual knowledge and should be approached as such. The present volume is an extremely modest attempt at such an approach. It could be followed by others. The rich heritage of English poetry holds so many treasures which we can use for the awakening of consciousness.

Dear Friends… I want to discuss ideas… Let me give you an idea to begin with: in each of us that can say I AM, that being that looks out of your eyes into mine, is a droplet of divinity, an immortal pulse of the eternal mind, no less.

Death the Great Adventure

Conditioned by the materialism of our time, we tend to identify ourselves with our bodies. In consequence, we wonder how consciousness can continue without the physical organ of the brain. This is perhaps the strongest argument of those who do not believe in survival after physical death. But even among believers and religious-minded people, the emphasis is constantly on rest in the hereafter: "Thou in the grave shalt rest".

Missionary Movement for the Cosmic Christ

'A new Christian succession has been founded. Of its reality we have never had a shadow of doubt. Our roots in Christ are vertical, not horizontal. We have no direct link with the historic bodies. We are not a church of memory but a church of hope. We believe we have reason to know the living Christ is making a new approach to the human race in order to help it step forward from natural evolution to spiritual evolution.'

Stewards of the Planet

The spiritual view of the universe, then, restores man to a plane of central importance. This, by contrast, brings to us a new and true humility – quite different from the arrogance bred by materialism and its mechanistic perspective. If we are integrally part of the whole of living nature, we are indeed stewards of the planet, given "dominion over the fish of the sea and over the fowl of the air and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth". What have we done with our stewardship? The answer is appalling. But we can yet make good the terrible damage we have inflicted on the living earth and its creatures – damage for which, through our greed, we are directly responsible.

Thoughts on Childbirth

The soul is immortal and imperishable. It always was and always will be, for it is a droplet of the Divine Source. For it there can be no death, though the body sheath can age, break down and be destroyed. The conception of a child is thus the initiating of a process whereby a free ranging spiritual being begins the long process of anchoring itself into the material world and descending into the field of gravity.
